The bias of us, trainers.

The hardest thing in training any animal, to change, or encourage a behaviour is the human bias of what we feel about the behaviour. But unfortunately, like us, animals; horses, dogs etc... are what they do - not who they think they are. The body keeps the score - and it teaches the mind.

Regardless of if we believe it is a good thing, or a bad thing - it will always be 'a thing' for the horse primarily, regardless of our opinions. Knowing what that THING means to the horse is the most important piece of information we can have, and then respond to.

It's a fine line between excitement/motivation (stress) and fear/overwhelm (distress).
