Q: When is the best time to do the mobility exercises? before or after a ride?
A: As most of the prescribed exercises are to take the body through both mobilisation & activation exercises to 'prime' the horses musculoskeletal, neurological & proprioceptive (balance systems) in a low risk & through non threatening input to the nervous system, they are ALWAYS best undertaken prior to exercise as a priority.
Think of them as a warm up for your horses physiology, that then in turn warms them up cognitively to learn & develop on movement patterns in the most ideal correct way throughout your ride, or exercise session.
If you do them first, you will ALWAYS gain the most out of you session, and you will likely achieve far better results.
All is not lost with doing them after as well, you can repeat them after if you have time...and remember - if you are chasing sunlight, doing them after is always better than not doing them at all!
